Town Call Resources, October 18 – Legislative Updates ENDA and Beyond

Out & Equal’s Training Department hosts a free monthly webinar Town Call on a current LGBT topic. These calls cover a wide range of topics and are also based on feedback we receive from our webinar participants. You can find the past Town Calls and register for upcoming Town Calls here. Each month we  will post links to Town Call recordings here once they are done for you to use as a resource and to give you the opportunity to lend your voice to the conversations.

Legislative Updates: ENDA and Beyond
Thursday, October 18, 2012 – 12 pm Pacific Time
1 pm Mountain | 2 pm Central | 3 pm Eastern

This year we celebrate the one year anniversary of the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and are glad that sexual orientation and gender identity are protected under the Hate Crimes law.  But we still wait for the passage of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) to provide protections in the workplace for LGBT employees across the United States.  The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) forces companies to create a two tier system of benefits for their LGBT employees and there are updates almost daily on court and state battles around Marriage Equality.  Being informed and understanding the issues is a key to making educated decisions on support at federal, state and local levels.  During this town call we talked with The Task Force to find out the current trends and latest developments on all of these issues and then to hear the corporate perspective of how they have stepped into the national discussion on LGBT workplace equality.  We will also include a global update on LGBT human rights around the world.
