“It was inspiring to hear that the White House is recruiting LGBT employees for Presidential Appointments from within the Out & Equal community.”
“So glad to know that Out & Equal’s LGBTCareerLink program is spreading the word — LGBT employees are sought after by the Obama Administration! Who knew?”
These two comments represent the audience’s sentiment following yesterday’s career development webinar, “Presidential Appointments for Openly LGBT Professionals.”
Our guest presenters for the 45 minute session were Samir Luther, the Director of the Presidential Appointments Project; Rebecca Cokely, the Director of Priority Placement in the Office of Presidential Personnel at The White House; and Zachary Portilla, Assistant, Office of Presidential Personnel, The White House. They talked about why LGBT professionals should consider applying for a Presidential appointment and how to do so. In addition to full-time appointed positions, they also discussed opportunities to serve on boards, commissions, advisory panels and grant reviewing groups across the country that can have a significant impact on policy. Thank you to Samir and Zachary for this incredibly helpful information.
The webinar was attended by 100 employees representing diverse workplaces — top-tier universities like Harvard and Cornell, companies like John Deere, Inc, Astrazenica and Exxon Mobile, along with major nonprofit organizations and U.S. government departments as well. If you were unable to attend the webinar, you can view the slides here.
